GUILARTE KEILA

Keila Guilarte (Santiago de Cuba, 1981) is a fashion photographer and photojournalist.
After being away from Cuba for many years — first as a child athlete on the national synchronized swimming team and later due to her work — Guilarte decided to reconnect with her homeland through the project “Mi Tierra”, a collection of eighty black-and-white photographs in which time seems suspended.
Guilarte approaches her country with love, profound nostalgia, and renewed wonder after having left it many years before; the pull of the island is visceral for her. Only the seasoned eye of the photographer can capture the soul of the Cuban people in images of immense emotional power. Minimal embellishment, maximum substance. Through this compelling visual narrative, Guilarte offers an intimate portrait of herself, from child and former national synchronized swimming athlete to woman, photographer, and mother. This experience culminated in a book published by Silvana Editoriale.
