PIREDDA ALESSANDRO

Alessandro Piredda was born in Riccione in 1974. He lives and works in Misano Adriatico, in the province of Rimini. His studies at the art high school and at the Albe Steiner Academy in Ravenna fostered Piredda’s interest first in architecture and later in photography. His early collaborations were with several motorcycle and sports magazines, but his never-fading focus on architecture has re-emerged in recent years. He currently concentrates his photographic research on social and artistic themes.
The series of photographs “Darkitectures,” presented in a solo exhibition at Galleria Forni in December 2018, portrays some of the historic monuments of Italian architecture, captured at night and in black and white. The light is warm, filtered through darkness, revealing the soul of architecture as a testimony to civilization and human history. As the artist states: “Using light and shadow, darkness and clarity, and time itself—understood as a tool for measuring humanity—photography has documented the flows of cities and civilizations. These images capture time, momentarily suspending it in stone. The voluntary memory of these photographs represents the remembrance of stone not as inert matter, but as a continuation of the vital momentum of living forms.”
