DISCOVERING CUBA THROUGH THE LOOK OF KEILA GUILARTE.

Born in Santiago de Cuba in 1981, Keila Guilarte decided to get closer to her land in recent years.

The Mi tierra project is a collection of eighty black and white photographs in which time seems suspended. Guilarte returns to her land with love, great nostalgia and renewed amazement after having left it many years before. The call of this island is visceral for her. The experience of the photographer manages to fix the soul of the Cuban people in photographs with great emotional strength.

Few frills, lots of substance.

Through the extremely powerful story of this island with such a particular history, Guilarte offers us an intimate portrait of herself. Different aspects of her personality are shown, from a former athlete of the national synchronized swimming team to the role of woman, mother and photographer.

From this experience comes a book published by Silvana Editoriale.

The intimate portrait of herself through the faces and gestures of others: this is how Gisella Borioli, journalist, art director and director of numerous fashion and design magazines, defines Guilarte's photographic and personal project in the introduction to the catalogue.
