TOMMASO OTTIERI, “LA MANO TUA – DIVO JANUARIO DICATUM”,
AT THE TESORO DI SAN GENNARO, NAPLES
On Thursday, December 15, 2022, at 6:00 PM, the Museo del Tesoro di San Gennaro will host the opening of Tommaso Ottieri’s exhibition “La mano tua, Divo Januario dicatum,” curated by Gallerie Riunite.
A tribute to the Patron Saint, the artist conceived this work specifically for the Tesoro di San Gennaro, creating pieces that engage in a dialogue with the masterpieces of the museum’s precious collection. The exhibition will be open to the public until March 15, 2023, during the museum’s regular visiting hours.
Tommaso Ottieri brings his contemporary artistic vision into a classical museum, offering new ways to experience and perceive the treasured works housed in the Tesoro.
“The museum’s rooms shine with light and faith. The light of the Saint, of Faith, and of the History of both, together with that of an entire city and its people,” explains Tommaso Ottieri. “In my work, I have always tried to recreate this light on canvas, making it shine through countless techniques and a method that is now millennia old, made available to me through the examples of the Masters and technical discoveries.”
Continuing this dialogue between past and contemporary history, the exhibition features nine oil-on-panel works of small, medium, and large sizes. With their baroque cosmogony and light sculpted from gold and incense, Ottieri’s paintings resonate with the familiar enchantments that captivate visitors throughout the Tesoro’s exhibition path. These inspirations have deeply shaped Ottieri’s sensibility, allowing him to continue today to tell the enduring story of devotion between the people of Naples and their Saint.
